Reflection 3: “In Faith”

Encyclical   Redemptoris Mater     “Mother of the Redeemer”

Encyclical Reflection 1

Mary’s faith is proclaimed; “Blessed are you among woman” (Lk 1:42)

Redemptoris Mater, 12

“While every word of Elizabeth’s greeting is filled with meaning, her final words would seem to have fundamental importance: “And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord” (Lk. 1:45).  Mary, who has become really present in the mystery of Christ precisely because she “has believed.” Mary’s faith, proclaimed by Elizabeth at the Visitation, indicates how the Virgin of Nazareth responded to this gift [provided to her by God].”

Personal Reflection

Saint John Paul II has us consider the importance of Elizabeth’s proclamation about faith and fulfillment in Mary. Mary’s faith reveals to us the mystery of Christ. Take a moment right now to simply ask Mary to reveal for you a deeper mystery of Christ in your life.
